A Piedmont Triad family is mourning the loss of a mother killed in a crash Wednesday night.

Christina Marie Durham, 30, of Greensboro, was killed in the crash that happened around 6:15 p.m. Her two sons survived.

According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, Christina was traveling east on Blumenthal Road, near Pleasant Garden Road in Guilford County, when her car traveled off the roadway to the right, struck a ditch and overturned. Christina was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the car during the crash. She died at the scene.

“The road surface condition in the area of the crash, from the recent winter storm, may have contributed to the collision. Troopers are still investigating,” a news release said.

Her family said icy road conditions was a factor.

Christina was the mother of the two children, Logan and Tyler, that were in the car at the time of the crash. Their father, Brian Durham, said losing Christina is a tremendous loss.

“I was devastated. I can’t believe it really happened. I’m still kind-of in denial,” Brian said. “It’s a tremendous loss — especially for the boys. It’s just very, very sad.”

Brian described Christina as a caring and giving person who would help any stranger. Brian said she was a brave woman and mother.

“The oldest child isn’t taking this very well. The youngest child, I don’t think really understands what’s going on,” Brian said. “She picked up the boys from my job and she was going to take them out and get something to eat. She was going to come home…she didn’t make it.”

Blumenthal Road was closed for nearly two hours during the investigation.

Both children received minor personal injuries and were transported to Moses H. Cone Hospital in Greensboro.

The family has created a GoFundMe to “raise enough funds that Christina’s children, the children’s father and her families can be comfortable through this challenging period and focus on healing & grieving without having to worry about bills, hospital costs & funeral expenses during this unexpected tragedy.”
